Raised-panel cabinetry, granite countertops, an angled island and a built-in desk gave this builder-grade kitchen plenty of storage, but the layout no longer supported the way the family cooked and gathered. Instead of expanding the room, the homeowners completely re-planned the existing footprint to create larger work zones, better storage and a more functional layout.

Builder kitchens follow a familiar layout
Original cabinetry wraps the perimeter with beadboard-style doors, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and a modest island. Desk space occupied one wall while a refrigerator interrupted the work area near the sink.
Large arched windows bring in natural light, but cabinet placement and a large refrigerator limit the visual balance. Open walkways surrounded the island, yet much of the center space was devoted to circulation rather than food preparation.
Storage remained generous, although many areas failed to support modern appliances or organized pantry items.
The existing kitchen was vacated before demolition began
Components of the countertops, appliances, drawers and island were exposed before demolition began. While the room was stripped to reveal the original layout, the cabinet boxes remained in place.
