Held together as if by magic, 150 brass rods that gradually reduce in thickness from 7mm to 1mm create an ethereal sculpture that recalls a familiar form. That ‘magic’ is in fact the delicate silver soldering that allows this Denmark-born artist to use flat metal sheets like 3D line drawings. Rhythmic presence and material absence frame the light, grounding Anne’s memories of Nordic midsummer evenings. ‘Creating such lightness from an incredible material like solid metal and using it to respect a negative space is very original,’ says Talib Chowdhury, editor of House and Garden, chairman of the jury. ‘Achieving extraordinary precision on a modest scale, this vessel makes us see with new eyes what we have seen many times before.’ anechristensen.com; ane@anechristensen.com; @ane.c
Special mention: Tessa Silva, for Smoke Lounge Chair (2026)
Each of the 18,000 stitches that adorn a chair made by this London-based Brazilian-born creative speaks to needlework as a quietly radical act, used by women as a tool of survival, repair and protest, and to pass memories and skills across generations. That the fabric used – about 60 meters – is deadstock cotton from the fashion industry tells a timely story of consumption and waste. The base structure was made from layers of coconut fiber, horse hair, hessian and calico. ‘It draws you in with its luscious, crease-like vignettes and then stuns you with the realization that such a fascinating piece can be made from materials destined for landfill,’ says jury member TF Chan, director of the Collect Art Fair. tessasilva.com; info@tessasilva.com; @tessasilva
