Due to current lack of space, my Home Office and bedrooms are cohabiting in the same space and they are quickly falling in love with each other. It can make the trip much faster, but there remains a problem.
While the room is big enough to have a desk on one side of the room, and my bed on the other, it’s a 24/7 relationship and one that’s starting to jar.
A break-up isn’t an option, so I’m looking for ideas to help zone the room or separate one space from another. I am selling my flat, I also don’t want to build a wall. So, if you find yourself in a love-hate relationship like mine, I’m thinking of turning my domestic disaster into domestic bliss.

Easily available from various online and personal stores viz IKEA And WayfarerFinding one is relatively easy. You just need to know how big it should be and the style or design you want.
Think about whether you want it to completely block the view of your home office set-up, or if it’s more of a disguise than a total block. But, consider lighting and ventilation. It may be that the screen is better placed on your bed than on a desk, for example if you are near a window, so that you don’t lose natural daylight while you work.

3. A curtained room within a room
One option that sits at the top of my list is the idea of finding a way to disguise my bed, rather than my desk. While looking at a desk at night isn’t overly conducive to sleep, neither is having my bed blurred in the background ideal for video calls.
There is not enough space for that Create a new stud wall with a doorSo whatever idea I choose needs to be less permanent, and doesn’t involve construction.
Instead, I’ve seen a number of curtain ideas that look more appropriate and attractive. Maybe it’s because they make me think of bedrooms in warm and sunny climates, as opposed to wet and windy Wales.
Anyway, with options like mounting This ceiling curtain track from IKEA and bend them around the bed, as shown in the second image, Umbra anywhere curtain rods and dividers Shown first, it’s definitely a solution that I think could work well in any bedroom that needs clever zoning.
4. Change my office furniture for hidden options

Some Home Office Storage It’s helpful to stock up on copies of homebuilding and renovating magazines and spare stationery, but that’s about all I need.
So, while I have a huge desk, the reality is that I can do my job in less space if I need to. This led me to research some hidden desk options, and while this may prove to be a more expensive option, it is again not permanent so I can still move with me when I relocate. If you buy well, it might even be worth one Get the alcoveOr find new life as a homework station in the kitchen.
