Refresh
I’m just signing in to go upstairs and open my bedroom windows now it’s a bit chilly – I’ll even blast my fan to try to move some of the hot air and get some fresh air flowing into the house. On really hot nights, I skip my duvet altogether and opt for a top sheet instead. And in this heatwave I have one more trick – I fill my hot water bottle with cold water (and a few ice cubes Ice cube tray) and pop it into my bed five minutes before I climb in.

Portable vs. Feet Air Conditioning
As the resident expert on all things cooling at Ideal Home, one question I get asked often is should you go for it? Opt for portable air con or fitted air conditioning instead.
The answer will largely depend on where you live and your budget. Portable air conditioners are more affordable than fitted ACs, can be moved around your home (though you’ll need help moving them up and down a flight of stairs due to their weight) and are non-permanent, which means they’re renter-friendly too.
However, it’s hard for a portable unit to beat a wall-mounted unit when it comes to quiet and clutter-free operation. The downside is that the fitted option is more expensive to install and cannot be moved from room to room. You also have to install indoor and outdoor units permanently.

Dukes Whisper 3 Alternate
I noticed that the Dukes Whisper 3 (which is a brilliant fan for the bedroom, thanks to its super-quiet operation), which was discounted as an early Prime Day deal, is out of stock.
Fortunately, if you have your heart set on it, its sister model, The Dukes Whisper Flex 2 In stock for less than £150 on Amazon. It is equal in terms of bedroom suitability and looks just as good. The biggest difference is that the Whisper Flex 2 can be controlled via an app and has two different height options, while the Whisper 3 isn’t as smart and offers more height variation between desktop and full pedestal height thanks to its telescopic stem.

Buy now or wait?
So should you buy a portable air conditioner now or wait? Finally, these devices aren’t cheap, with even the most budget friendly models costing over £250.
If you need a portable air conditioner in the next few days, then if you find a portable AC that suits your needs and is in stock, definitely don’t wait to get it. The stock is moving very quickly, so if you don’t you’re missing out.
However, if you have a very specific model, such as new Super-quiet Miko SiroThen if you can hold out for a few more days, you should be able to get the one you want in early July with remaining stock. It’s also worth checking back daily. In the past few days, I have seen portable air conditioners come back in stock and sell out again on the same day.

Misting fan optional
If you can’t get your hands on a portable air conditioner of your choice yet, or it’s out of your budget, it’s definitely worth considering a misting fan, especially if it seems like your fan is only blowing hot air.
With an integral water tank, they spray an ultra-fine mist while blowing out air, which is very cooling to those in its path. It’s not likely to lower the overall temperature in the room like a portable air conditioner, but it will feel more like a cool breeze than a normal fan, so it’s a good middle ground.
I am trying Dreo 765S TurboCool Misting Fan, available on Amazon For a few weeks now, and it definitely creates a cooling breeze and doesn’t soak me.
