I have always loved stained glass. I find it beautiful and ethereal. It catches and reflects light, it adds subtle color, and for small homes, is the perfect accent because it doesn’t take up a lot of visual weight. What do I mean by visual weight? Well a colored glass vase and a dark metal vase of the same size will be perceived differently by the eye. A metal vase seems to take up more space in the room because it just looks “heavy”. Tinted glass, on the other hand, allows light to pass through and, for that matter, even your line of sight. That makes it perfect for small rooms, because the eye will perceive it as not being fully “there”. make sense? For the same reason designers recommend using glass tables in small homes, colored glass creates a nice, light accent. Oh yeah, and it looks great!

Most stained glass comes in wonderful shades of green and blue, with the occasional pink. Who doesn’t like that? Remember, like pronunciation it sounds best in a group of oddly numbered items. These can be grouped with other accents, but I like to create a cluster of stained glass. It only has this effect with the light in the room!
You can buy inexpensive stained glass accent pieces, or collect them from thrift and antique stores or specialty bottles. It lends itself best to casual decorating styles, but if you love cottage, coastal or shabby chic, you need to have some of this in your room.
