Check out this disposable hydrangea bath towel.
You know how much I love hydrangeas.
i love Planting them and watching them grow in the Texas heat.
And dry them.
But I never ordered them on napkins to create the projects I envisioned in my mind.
Can you guess?
Here’s a hint: This is a project I’ve never made before. It’s something I’ve never tried before.
I was actually a little worried because I’ve never tried it before, but it was even more beautiful than I imagined (how could it not be when you’re making things with hydrangeas).
I am so glad I got these towels….
….and made this.

Here’s how to make podge in a basket and several tips I learned along the way.
How to Mod Podge A Basket
Supplies:
Rope basket (I think it would work on other baskets too)
Disposable bathroom hand towels
High precision cutting scissors
1. Start with the basket
Let’s unpack what type of basket to choose.
I think this is what can make or break the whole project. This is just a super cheap basket I found at the dollar store. It used to have handles, but they were falling off since I’ve used them for a while, so I just took them off for this project. I think this kind of rope basket works best for Mod Podge. I’m worried that if you try it on a rattan basket, the image will have tons of stripes.
The rope basket worked incredibly well for this project, and there weren’t as many stripes as I thought they were going to be.
You probably have a basket like this sitting around your house, but I put together a few that I thought would work if you wanted to try the project.

2. Unfold the paper napkin
You can use any type of paper napkin for this project. I just fell in love with the print on this bathroom hand towel. I only used two or three for the project, and now I’m going to put them in my bathroom for guests to use.
I would make sure you choose a print that has different flowers or hydrangeas so you can create whatever pattern you want with them.
Begin by opening the napkin like this. Don’t worry about creases; You’re going to be cutting the individual items out of the napkins, so creases won’t matter.
3. Remove the back of the napkin
After the handkerchief spreads, begin by pulling back the handkerchief.
Don’t worry if you forget this step.
I actually forgot in the middle of the project and cut the hydrangeas out of the napkin with the back still on, and then peeled the back off the individual hydrangeas after they had already been cut.
4. Cut the hydrangea
Next, you will want to cut out the hydrangea from the paper. I also cut out a few butterflies.
I didn’t really have the proper shears for this, so my hydrangea was very fuzzy. When they look at the baskets, they don’t look too bad, but I realized I needed better scissors for a project like this.
I found these precision scissors that you can use for projects like this that I think would make the hydrangea look better.
5. Place the hydrangeas in the pattern you want
This was a fun part.
The basket actually had some imperfections, so I placed hydrangeas on the basket to hide those imperfections.
My best advice is to start the pattern you want before gluing anything.
Make sure your hydrangea fits before you mod podge it.
6. Mod podge in place
Start placing by adding Mod Podge directly to the basket. I just added a circle about the size of the hydrangea cutout. I like using Matte Mod Podge for this because it doesn’t show any imperfections when it dries.

Then I placed the cutout hydrangea directly on top of the glue.
Be careful, the paper is very fragile and can tear easily (good thing you have all those extra napkins to work with).
Keep adding Mod Podge until your entire flower is covered.
Then repeat the process for the remaining flowers and butterflies on the basket.
Let your basket dry for at least 2-3 hours before you decorate.
That’s it.
Isn’t that the easiest project?
And think about the possibilities.
Today hdyrangeas.
Tomorrow is autumn leaves and Christmas ornaments and rows of little Christmas trees at the bottom and sleighs and stars, oh wait–and how about adding glitter to Mod Podge.
