Looking for blue and white cottage bedroom decorating ideas? Here’s a mini bedroom refresh with the cutest block print pattern.
I found this picture of twins from a post when I first started the blog.
Before the parentheses. Before cheerleading. Before basketball.
Boys and before middle school.
Boys and before high school.
Before driving. Before the promoters. Before graduation.
before college.
Before I came faster than I had ever planned. A wise man once told me that the days are long but the years are short. Truer words were never spoken.
And now?
We are starting a new chapter. Whitney has completed her residency, and is returning home to work on her interpreter’s license so she can interpret for the deaf community.
So to his surprise?
I had to freshen up her room. Just between us? I think that’s my love language – the room is refreshing.
After all, nothing says I love you more than a new block print pillow.

After I finished freshening up the room, I sent Whitney pictures.
She has finals right now, and she’s so stressed, and she has a lot on her plate, and I was trying to cheer her up.
She gasped at the photos.
“I love him, Mom,” she said.

Let’s take a tour.
We already had this rug in the room.
You helped me choose it last year.
Here’s a close-up of what the pattern details look like.
The background color is a little whiter and less creamy than it looks in this photo. The pattern has flowers and swirls and vines and looks very elegant. And whoever suggested turning it horizontally, I wish I could give you a standing ovation.
It made all the difference in the space.

Instead of a bench at the end of the bed?
I added these baskets.
I came across them years ago (it’s a Safavieh brand) and they have casters that roll all over the place. I tried to source them for us, but I couldn’t find one this strong and this size.
They are oversized and perfect for keeping all the extra blankets and pillows at the end of the bed.

I added this “W” pillow that my sister made me for Christmas.
Every room needs a little something handmade, and this corner chair was the perfect addition.
It’s made of little yo-yos that my sister stitched into pillow covers.

If they were giving out awards for the happiest beds on the planet – this would be a winner.
I layered this new block print rug with ruffles. There are three block print pillows at the back and then one long block print pillow with ruffles at the front.

I also love, love, love this gingham bed. I also ordered it for the cape bedroom, and it has a zipper on the end of the duvet cover and a little tie that you can fasten the duvet insert to. It also comes with a set of gingham shams.

When the twins were little, maybe around 4? Whitney had to have a whirly skirt. I guess if you’re nine years old and Hannah Montana is your fashion icon, double-edged swirly skirts are all the rage.
One day, I remember her standing on the back porch with her arms raised to the sky.
Blonde hair floating in the wind with a smile on her face.
And her curled skirt swirled – like a swirl until today turned into tomorrow.
Now is tomorrow.
He is not four years old anymore.
But after all these years? Not much has changed.
And I know that soon I’ll walk into this room and open the door and I’ll see her pacing and pacing across the room.
Because my grown up little girl is still dancing.
