I like to sit outside in the garden as soon as it’s warm enough to have the wool outside, coffee in hand. But when the sun goes down on a summer evening, my north-facing garden is the last place I want to be, or at least it was until I made the beautiful addition. La Hacienda Trentham Clay Chimina for £140 at B&Q in my garden.
If you’ve never heard of a chiminea, it’s essentially a small free-standing chimney that you can use to heat a patio or even cook food depending on the style you have. I grew up with a chiminea in my family’s garden, so I’ve always been a fan of this Consider outdoor heating. However, in the past 10 years, chiminazes have appeared to fall out of fashion, with many favoring Love Island-style fire pits instead.
The main difference between a chimney and a fire pit is that a chiminea controls the direction of any smoke going up and out the chimney, which you can’t do with a fire pit. This was a huge bonus for me, because I really didn’t want to be that annoying neighbor. I also chose to have only a small hole in the front of the chiminea through which you can light it, so all the flames are contained within the clay structure.
Now, another bonus is the aesthetic appeal. This The best firepits And that too Best patio heaters They are not the most aesthetically pleasing things when they are not in action during the day. A chiminea, on the other hand, can be a beautiful statement piece for your finish Consider an outdoor living roomAnd I think this is behind their current resurgence.

The beautiful turquoise green clay chiminea I chose from B&Q for my garden received many compliments from the Ideal Home team even before I set it up for testing in my garden.
My particular chiminea comes in two pieces with a stand, so it’s up and ready to go in seconds. It is relatively tall at 82.2cm and 38cm wide, so like most other chimney styles, it is best placed in a corner or next to a seating area, as would be a traditional fireplace. I put half down in my garden to help zone the small seating area, keeping it safely away from any plants.

Mine is just the right size for my garden, but if your space is at a snugger size, I’d recommend going for a slimmer one. Molela Clay Chiminea for £75 at B&Qwhich is 35cm wide. I’ve only had a chance to light my chiminea twice, due to rain, but I’m impressed with the heat it gives off.
I plan to use it all summer Kiln-dried wood, available on Amazon for £10, To help reduce any smoke it produces. But, I would suggest investing in it A chiminea cover like this £20 one from B&QAs I learned during a recent downpour, it can easily turn into a contingency bucket.
There are many different styles of chimneys to suit every style of garden. Here are just a few of the others that caught my eye.
