But between us? What I am is better. I’m someone who really, really, loves her home. I’m the guy who shows up every day and fluffs and tons and twists and moves things from room to room.
Mostly I try to be classic.
Timeless.
whimsical
But every now and then, I try to add an attitude. Just to keep it fresh.
So I did some research from real designers and what their views are on the trends for summer.

1. Large planters are replacing small plants
Oh, well, I thought when I read this.
It’s like Mandap just got statement earrings.
(On a gross side note: you can check out this post I wrote about all of mine Favorite statement earrings here).
I like whatever is big and bold.
And the wonderful part about big and bold things? You only need a few of them for decoration.
Like these oversized white iron planters I have on the back porch.
I found them years ago at a salvage sale, but I did These oversized planters are totally on trend.

3. Create an outdoor living room
I think this is a trend I’ve seen over and over again.
It’s all about using your outdoor spaces to create an outdoor room.
This is a little space I created in our backyard. You don’t need a lot of space to create a patio like this. And if you don’t have a patio, you can build one.
Here are the best outdoor tips to save money.
Use these waterproof, outdoor tiles that click together (you can see them under the mattress) and you can lay a patio in minutes.

4. Lantern lighting instead of overhead porch lighting
In this world, there aren’t many things that I actively dislike.
That’s a pretty short list.
Overhead lighting is at the very top of my list.
And that applies to outdoor spaces as well.
This is a trend Which I already use inside my house And I am very happy that the trend is going out.
The lantern is where it’s at.
I love, love, the solar lantern lighting my steps.
But, here it is 9 Simple Cozy Lighting Tricks That Transform Even Indoor Rooms
5. Use vintage finds outside
You know how much I love vintage.
There is something about vintage that just creates character.

6. Porch swings are trending
In wonderful news, porch swings are trending.

7. Cottage gardens create outdoor rooms
This is another way to create an outdoor room.
Designers are thinking of gardening spaces as mini rooms.
Add a bench or chair and a small table.
This is an easy way to extend your outdoor living spaces.
8. Create an outdoor dining room
See what I mean?
All outdoor rooms, all the time.
This was just a corner of one of our flower beds and we turned it into a dining area.
We sit here for dinner at night and say hi to all the neighbors.
Here was our appetizer and our dessert.

// Same shower //
9. Add a focal point with a shower
Our backyard is divided into four mini yards.
There is a sidewalk that divides each space and a space in the middle.
That space needed a focal point.
I could have added a bouquet or topiary of flowers, but I thought the fountain was the perfect centerpiece for the garden.
you A similar fountain can be seen here.
// A scalloped canopy that tilts //
10. Look for scalloped details on the outside
We’re talking about all the scalloped insides (eg The scalloped baskets).
But the designers?
They are all about bringing out the scallops.
And look how beautiful?
A canopy with scalloped trim. It’s a lot cuter than your typical, everyday umbrella.
I found one that is very on trend and comes in many colors and tilts from my favorite brand too.
11. Personalize your outdoor rug
Just between us?
I think personalization is always a trend.
But apparently it’s more of a thing now.
Good thing I was on trend when I made these rugs and didn’t even know it.
Personalize and monogram your outdoor rug with this easy project.
I hope this was a little helpful from someone who is not a designer.
But someone who loves his home.
and occasional attitude.
Especially if it involves summer. 🙂
