See that space in my kitchen?
That big empty space in the middle of the floor?
There was a runner.
Indeed, many runners have come and gone.
Being a kitchen runner is hard work. There is traffic and food and drink and general mayhem. That’s a tall order for a carpet.
But then?
I had a brilliant idea (sometimes that happens).
What if I get a runner that I can wash? When the going gets tough, I can toss it in the washer.
see? Brilliant, right?
I found several runners that I thought would work and I mocked them up in the space so we could all see what they looked like.
Here are 10 of the best (in my opinion) washable runners for the kitchen (and most of them are under $40,t00).

A few things to note before we begin:
- Washable runners can be a little thin-so I use a non-skid rug pad underneath-This is a wonderful one
- Most runners are under $40 (I wanted to keep it pretty cheap).
- All runners come in different sizes and colors
- I use 2′ x 6′ for the space, but I can go up to 2′ x 8′.
- I usually measure the space for the runner with painter’s tape on the floor so I can visualize it
1. Washable Vintage Blue Runner
I picked the top five I was thinking of for the kitchen and mocked them up in the space.
Start off strong with this vintage blue runner.
I love its color and patterned details, and I think it looks pretty expensive (even though it’s under $40).
They come in several sizes, but I think I’ll go with the 2′ x 6′ (they have tons of other sizes too).

2. Checkered runner with border
This is the washable runner I’m leaning towards.
Just between us? I’ve never met a Harlequin pattern I didn’t like.
It gives me 1990’s vibes (It was a wonderful decade for me).

3. The tapestry runner
Doesn’t this runner look like a piece of artwork?
It looks to me like a fancy tapestry from an English manor.
This is my second choice (just look at that border). I am concerned that the background is a bit too creamy for me.
It’s so cheap, I might order this one too, just to see which one will work better.

4. The neutral runner
This is for all my neutral friends.
I always get requests for neutral runners and this one has the cutest pattern.
The colors are layered and I think there is a slight pink undertone.
Runners (like all these runners) come in tons of different sizes.

5. The blue and white runner
I fell in love with this runner when I saw it.
Normally, I tend towards blue and white, but I don’t have a ton of blue and white in the kitchen (maybe I should change that).
This runner is similar to the number one with more of a navy color.

6. Block print runner
Look at the scallops on this runner.
I love the subtle details of the block print pattern and the neutral background.
It almost reads as neutral to me and would be great in a farmhouse kitchen.

Hello beautiful.
This floral runner makes a STATEMENT.
Which you know I’m all about.
I once had a rug like this in my kitchen in Texas in the house we lived in before we moved to Kentucky and I loved it.

8. The scalloped Laura Ashley runner
Wait until you see the price of this.
If you look closely at the pattern, you can see that it is layered and slightly tufted.
I was very surprised that this was washable (I double checked to make sure) and I’m all about Laura Ashley (Growing up my bedroom was covered in Laura Ashley wallpaper).

9. This scalloped floral rug
I just thought this was the sweetest mattress.
It may be too much for the kitchen (or not), but it would be perfect in an entryway or hallway.
It also comes in many other colors if pink isn’t your thing.

10. The jute scalloped runner
And number 10 on our list is a beautiful scalloped neutral.
This rug would work in any kitchen and I love the double border.
