When I built an office in 2023 and added some blue and white?
I lined the walls with these bookcases from IKEA.
Whenever I share an office, everyone always asks me about them.
The bookcases come as individual units, and I also added doors and extra extenders at the very top along with the doors. It’s pretty cheap and the best option I’ve found for a bookcase that looks like a built-in.
I went shopping at thrift stores for blue books and filled bookcases to decorate them and used organizers to organize everything behind the door on the bottom of the bookcase.
But now?
It is 2026.
I thought it might be fun to update the bookcase a bit.
Nothing fancy.
Nothing extravagant.
But a simple, easy bookcase hack you can use to instantly update your bookcase.
Here is a view from the other side of the room.
There are a total of six bookcases with extenders.
This is the view from my desk that I see every day.
Sometimes while I’m on call? I mentally redecorate the bookcase and rearrange everything.
Here’s a close-up of the shelves with glass backs and doors open.
The styling is simple.
Simple.
basic.
But I wanted to update it a bit. So I searched for bookcase decorating ideas and found this simple idea.
And now?
It looks like this.
Can you even believe how beautiful it is?
What I did was to slant the shelves and add these book rails.
It is IT.
Want to see how easy it is?
This simple bookcase hack
Supplies:
Adjustable shelves
So for this hack to work.
You will only need two things.
Adjustable shelves and these long brass handles.
you can Get brass handles here.
Step 1: Move the metal prongs
You can see here that the shelves in this bookcase are adjustable.
I have removed the shelf so you can see the small metal dimples sitting on the shelf.
You can move them up and down to adjust the height of your shelves in the bookcase.
You can see how I adjusted the prongs here.
There are three spaces between the front scapula and the back scapula.
This seemed to be the right height to tilt the shelf.
Step 2: Place the bookshelf on a slant
It is important to note that the IKEA boards you use for the shelves have holes where the prongs fit.
When you tilt the bookcase, the holes help hold the bookcase in place.
If you don’t have holes like these, you can drill them to help hold the slant in place.
Adjust the metal prongs to make sure you have the slant you want.

3. Add metal handles to the front
Remove the shelf from the bookshelf.
attach Brass handles on the shelf (the kit comes with hardware to attach them).
Place the shelf diagonally back into the bookshelf.
Now you are ready to display your books.

4. Display books
Open some books on display on the shelf.
It will be amazing if you have an antique book with colorful pictures.
I’ll be looking for one, but for now, I’ve only displayed my own books that I’ve written.
That’s it.
