One of the easiest ways to add a seasonal feel to your home is by changing your mantle decor; Today I’m sharing some easy fall mantel decorating ideas to inspire you for the upcoming season.
It’s hard to believe it’s almost the end of August! We have less than two weeks until school kicks back into full gear, and in less than a month it will officially be fall. I’m not ready to completely change our house over to our fall decor just yet, but I’m thinking ahead and working on my plans for a color scheme I think I’d like to make this coming season. Think: warm light terracotta tones mixed with greens and a bit of blue and teal. As much as I hate to see summer, I’m excited to pull together our fall decor and give our home a few new touches for the coming months.

How do you decorate a mantel for fall?
It’s easy!
Choose your color scheme. Bring in some fall flowers. Add some seasonal decor touches (think pumpkins, acorns, dried corn, etc.). Tie it all together with fall art or printables.

Every year I like to go with a slightly different scheme. Often times I tend towards blues and greens in my fall decor, but some years I’ve been going more neutral and farmhouse. It all depends on how you feel and what you like!
Last year’s fall mantle Full of dark, warm, earthy tones…
A year ago we lived in our cabin on the lake when we built, so Our mantle was light coastal Colors with lots of blue and neutrals.
Before that, when we lived in our forest house, I went with a more neutral scheme filled with white and warm, natural tones for us. Neutral Farmhouse Fall Mantel Decor. These colors look warmer and ‘cozier’ against our dark charcoal fireplace brick.
Anchor your mantle with fall art or a decorative mirror
Each season I try to create a printable that ties our fall color scheme together. At our forest house I created some vintage neutral farmhouse style free printables that were perfect for us Neutral Farmhouse Fall Mantel Decor. You can read more about printables here. The colors in it pair beautifully with our neutral farmhouse mantel.
While staying at a lake cabin, I used one of these Neutral Farmhouse Fall Printables Again, but I mixed it up with a piece of art that combines the warm tones in the printable with the light and airy blues and whites of the rest of the mantel decor.
Now that we have a frame TV, I choose a large piece of art to display over the fireplace.
last autumnI used a moody piece that featured warm neutral tones as well as deep, rich blues/greens. These same tones were found in all the decor on the mantel, from DIY Textured Dark Teal Painted Vase For pumpkins, wood accents, dried flowers and DIY Acorn Wreath.
Bring in fall florals – these can be fake, dried or real!
Probably my favorite part, the flowers! Or… branches, greenery, berries, etc. It could be real. fake Dry. Whatever works!
Last year I focused on dried flowers and really loved the texture they added to ours Warm earthy rustic autumn mantle decor. I found all my dried flowers in bunches at Homesense, and I mixed them in with some other faux florals I had in my fall bin.
Before last year, I had never experimented with dried flowers, and always went with a mix of fake branches, leaves, or flowers and real flowers. Often in the fall it’s just as quick and easy to bring in some branches from trees in your yard or neighborhood, and as they dry and change color they just add to the fall theme of your decor! for us Coastal farmhouse fall mantel at the lake cabinI brought in green maple leaves, and as they dried and changed color to a deep yellow, they continued to work beautifully with the rest of our fall mantel decor.
My favorite place for fake branches and blooms is usually Michael’s, though I always use coupons or wait for a BOGO sale to buy them. I picked up these cotton buds a few years ago and used them on our AnnUtral Farmhouse Fall Mantle In a forest house. Their creations are hard to beat!
Add some seasonal decor for fall (think: pumpkins, acorns)
Finally, top off your fall mantle with a few easy classic fall decor finds. My DIY acorn wreath is always a favorite (learn how to make it here); As are my dried corn cobs and small pumpkins. It doesn’t take much to give a nod to the season without going over the top of the ‘theme’, so don’t overdo it!
