I’m back with another holiday post! Last week I shared ours cozy and nice Christmas tree decor this year and today I’m sharing my best ideas for DIY ornaments. My very favorite time of year to share little projects is definitely the holiday season and today I’m sharing some of my favorite easy DIY Christmas ornaments as well as a few other DIY Christmas ideas. I’m excited to join some talented blogger friends who are also sharing their DIY Christmas Ornaments with you, be sure to check them out at the bottom of my article. Thanks to my friend Jen from Tatertots and jelly for hosting this holiday idea, oops!
Today I’m featuring an adorable DIY Christmas decoration made from classic replacement Christmas bulbs… you know, think old-school red, green and blue Christmas lights. The kind we all hung by hand on our trees (and outdoors in our homes) in the years before all the lights went white… and then all the lights became little bulbs… and then all the lights became pre-hung on our fake trees. I remember these replacement bulbs so clearly from my childhood, which is probably why they inspired me so much to think of ways to incorporate them into my Christmas decorations, even though we no longer use them as actual replacement bulbs.
I think you’ll agree that this simple DIY Christmas decoration idea is not only quick, easy and affordable, but also adorable!
Make your own lighted Christmas tree
I found my bulbs at a local big box Christmas decorations and supplies store. In addition to the bulbs, I used some twine, hot glue, and some faux greenery, berries, and pine cones from the dollar store. You can cut a bunch of greens into smaller pieces and even use real small pine cones if you have access to them. The ornaments would even be cute with just twine, but I love how the greenery and berries added extra interest and texture.
I just wrapped and taped the twine…
I twisted it around the top and glued it to create the hanger and then added my decorative additions…
Aren’t they so much fun? And quick to prepare! I used real glass bulbs so they are breakable, but you can sometimes find plastic versions of these as well. I personally like the shiny reflection you get from the glass bulbs.
I also used them to create a simple flower bulb garland a few years ago…
