I have a fun little Easter craft for you today!

I actually picked up this supply two years ago with every intention of making it…and my daughter Courtney and I finally did it this week.

If you have Prime, you should still have time Get supplies Before Easter. If not, save these for next year (or be like me and order everything in advance so you’re ready when the mood strikes!).

Also, a quick disclaimer: I’m not a DIY professional. 🙂 But I think this is so cute!

Here’s what we used:

Wooden eggs

Paintbrush

Forest Animal Cocktail Napkins

Blue Bird Cocktail Napkins

Juicy cocktail napkins

Pink Floral Cocktail Napkins

Floral Cocktail Napkins (similar)

Gloss varnish

I rounded up everything I used and a few extras here

How we did it:

  • Separate the napkins so you are only using the top printed layer
  • Tear (don’t cut) the napkin into small pieces – the torn edges blend in more naturally.
  • Brush a thin layer of varnish on the egg.
  • Gently place a piece of napkin on top, then brush another thin layer of varnish over it to smooth it out.
  • Repeat, slightly overlapping pieces, until egg is covered.

Some helpful tips I learned along the way:

  • Less varnish is better – too much can make the paper wrinkle.
  • Use a light touch with your brush to avoid tearing the napkin.
  • If there are wrinkles, don’t worry – they really add charm.
  • Let them dry on parchment paper (we put ours on a plate and ours stuck a little)
  • Smaller pieces are easier to work with around curves.
  • I didn’t wear gloves and ended up with varnish on my fingers 🙂 Next time I’ll wear gloves or keep a wet cloth nearby for easy cleaning.

Ideas for using it:

  • Display in a bowl
  • Scattered along a table or centerpiece
  • Use as place settings
  • Tuck into a basket or spring vignette

This would also be such a fun craft for guests to pass out…everything is customizable and everyone can make their own!
