Choosing a playroom color scheme that appeals to your little one can be a daunting task – so why turn to a color expert like Lix Tash Bradley who has both professional and personal experience with the task? If you ask me, it’s the perfect source of inspiration for an attractive playroom color scheme.

Last year, one of her clients was closest to home as she designed and built a beautiful playroom for her two-year-old son Zach, complete with beautiful colors and Think paint. Designing Zach’s playroom was one of my favorite rooms to work on. Whenever I design a room, I always start with the feeling I want to create. I think about the memories I want to create in that space, and in this case, that’s what Zach naturally gravitates towards,’ says Tesh.

Even with playrooms, with the room itself and its specific dimensions, quirks and Lighting. ‘It faced north, so naturally it didn’t get a lot of light, especially in the winter months. Instead of fighting that, I wanted to create a space that felt bright, warm and uplifting,’ says Tash.
On the walls, she started with a neutral base Lick White 05, available at B&Qwhich allows colorful toys to pop in front of him. It also has a warm yellow undertone that balances the lack of light in the room. ‘The walls, cupboards and woodwork are painted in White 05, one of my favorite warm whites. It has beautiful yellow undertones that bounce the light around the room and keep it from ever feeling cold,’ explains Tash.

But from there, things got more colorful – although the color choices strike a perfect balance between calm and playful. ‘I chose Blue 15 For the ceiling because it is a soft, warm blue that immediately creates the feeling of looking up at the sky. Blue has shorter wavelengths of light, so it naturally makes the ceiling seem taller and the room feel more open.’
‘Because I wanted to bring that playful energy, I painted the windowsill inside Red 03. It’s a small detail, but it makes a beautiful focal point and nods back to playful primary colors without overwhelming the space,’ says Tesh.

On top of creating this beautiful space just last year, Tash is currently in the process of designing another playroom for her son as the family moves to a new house later this year, leaving London for the Somerset countryside. This is what Tash has for this next project.
The next playroom
‘For the new home, I’m definitely keeping the same philosophy of creating a room that feels joyful and sparks creativity, but I think I’m going to be a little braver this time. I like the idea of introducing more color through painted FurniturePlayful spells or even color-blocking rather than just relying on walls,’ says Tash.

‘One of his favorite books at the moment is Mouse on the River, and every time we read it, I’m drawn to this beautiful palette of soft blues and greens that run throughout the illustrations. It feels very calm, nostalgic and connected to nature. As the house is in the countryside, and her playroom overlooks the garden and all the trees, it just seemed like the perfect starting point,’ explains Tash.
To bring this context to life, Tash is looking to Color wheel And a little color theory Which he, of course, is very familiar with. ‘I’ll almost certainly keep the painted ceiling because I love the personality it brings, and I’ll continue to layer those playful primary colors throughout the room. I really lean towards a soft uniform color palette, using shades like this Blue 18, Blue 03 And a beautiful soft rich olive green. All those colors sit next to each other on the color wheel, so they create this wonderfully harmonious, calming backdrop that’s still full of personality.’
‘Then, because every room needs a little surprise, I like to bring an unexpected accent of rich burnt orange through furniture or accessories. It will add warmth, energy and that playful touch that every playroom deserves.’

Tash concludes with how every playroom should feel, ‘The aim is not to create a space that feels loud or overstimulated, but one that feels imaginative, energetic and full of joy. Ultimately, a great playroom inspires creativity and still feels calm enough that children and adults can really enjoy spending time there.’
