Plant stands often limit how many containers can fit in a small patio or backyard corner. Once the shelves are full, the only option is to buy another stand or spread the pots on the ground.
Reddit user u/Accomplished_Pen616 A different solution was found by stacking ordinary cinder blocks into a modular plant wall. Each opening became its own planter shelf, creating space for flowers, herbs, succulents and foliage plants without creating a permanent structure.
Construction cinder blocks became living plant walls
The project begins with concrete cinder blocks stacked in an offset pattern. No mortar holds the blocks together, making it easy to rearrange or expand the display when more plants are added.
Each opening serves as an individual planting space. Some feature flowering annuals, while others feature trailing vines, succulents, colorful coleus or ornamental grasses. A staggered layout keeps each pot visible instead of hiding the plants behind one another.
Different plants keep changing the display through the seasons
A finished wall planter does more work because the arrangement can be changed throughout the year. Spring flowers can give way to summer annuals, herbs or fall color without rebuilding the structure.
Painting the cinder a dark charcoal finish draws attention to the plants rather than the concrete. As new pots replace old ones, the same wall continues to evolve, turning inexpensive building blocks into a backyard display that can grow and change season after season.
