I have done a lot of advertising on this blog.
there This was the announcement.
and of course, This ad.
See what I mean?
I’m a little declaration-heavy.
I mean, really, how many announcements can one make? Are there any advertising limits? Is there an advertising cut-off? Can you advertise so much that people get tired of advertising?
the truth?
Can we pretend I’ve never advertised on this blog before?
Because all those ads pale in comparison to what I want to share with you today.
This ad is big. It’s really, really, really big.
Because today?
I can’t wait to tell you this.
The sweetest, most wonderful couple in the world……
….has a child.
Can you believe it?
My eyes are watering as I write this, and I only have 50 words.
(Total aside: I’m doing everything in the world to avoid typing the entire post in capital letters.)
Just in case you were wondering?
I am the mother of one of the most amazing young men ever to pretend he was a dinosaur. Even if I squint, I can see it Wearing his T-Rex hat and glow-in-the-dark prehistoric shirt and light-up shoes on the playground.
I can still see it Catch that fly ball in the outfield.
I can still see He stands on dirt that taught him many lessons.
I could see him teaching his sisters to drive, being there for his brother and watching him wander off, and letting Buddy follow him wherever he went, and patiently explaining all about basketball to his mom and helping his dad when he needed it most.
And then?
One day, I saw him falling in love.
It was unexpected for all of us.
After all, Zack had never brought a girl home before.
And now I know why.
He was waiting for the most perfect girl on the planet.
Our Courtney.
A girl so special and so wonderful that she took his breath away.
A girl who believed in him.
A girl who made him laugh and encouraged him and saw him with all his strengths and all his imperfections.
And loved him immediately.
And now?
They are expecting a baby.
And it’s a girl.
(See there I go with capital letters again.)
And guess what that makes me?
a grandmother
Can you believe it?
If I’m being honest? I’m a little nervous. I want to get it right and be the best grandma the world has ever seen. I’m not really sure what a grandmother should do or how a grandmother should act.
I was never one before.
But just know that right here, right now, at this exact moment, even though I’m nervous, the feeling that’s filling my heart to the brim?
awe
Incredible, wonderful, overwhelming awe.
A grateful, grateful heart is full of awe for the chapters that have gone before….
…and awe at all the new chapters just waiting to be written.
PS, I would love any advice you share. I need all the help I can get.
PPS. I would also like to know your grandmother’s name. I am really looking for a good one.
