After reluctantly agreeing to view a dated dormer bungalow, Kelly Bailey was surprised when, minutes after entering, she was confronted with the breathtaking sight that would seal the deal.
‘When my husband Richard and I moved into the property, I didn’t really want to move in, but now I’m so glad I did,’ says Kelly. ‘The view to the rear overlooking the fields and hills was fantastic, and the property offers huge potential. ‘While I was looking out over the river at the bottom of the garden, Richard was so impressed that he made an offer and decided, suddenly, that this time-warp property would be our next home.’
It was Kelly’s mother who shared a tip-off about a bungalow in a charming Cotswolds town that hadn’t yet come on the market. ‘I never thought I’d live in a dormer bungalow, but the reality was we had to buy it,’ says Kelly.

‘We took the roof off and gutted the whole bungalow,’ adds Kelly. ‘At one stage, only two outer and one inner wall remained of the original property. ‘Our aim was to create a very comfortable and practical light-filled house that would maximize the beautiful countryside views. We thought bifold doors and glazed balconies would work well.’
