Hanging Beach Chair Caddy – Printable Sewing Pattern

If your beach bag is basically a black hole – sunscreen at the bottom, phone under a towel somewhere, a book folded in half – and you love to sew, this beach chair caddy is for you. This is DIY JOY’s free pattern for a folding beach chair caddy that wraps around the arms of any folding chair and puts everything within reach: one pocket-sized for your sunscreen, one for your beach read, and one for your phone. Store whatever you like in that pocket!

The pattern is at the end of the page

My favorite part? A hidden zipper pocket on the back keeps your phone and keys out of the sun (and out of sight when you’re in the water). It velcros around the chair rail so it won’t slip or fly off, and it’s all straight cut and straight stitching — even beginners can whip these up in an afternoon. Grab a couple of fun canvas prints, some bias binding and the free printable pattern below, and let’s sew! This is a cute summer project and great to make before vacation or before your friend goes on a trip. I had so much fun finding the patterned fabric for this – I hope you do too!

project

  • Beach/folding chair caddy, almost finished. 14″W × 10″H
  • Wrap over armrest (or chair-back rail) – A flap folds over and Velcros to the back, clamping around the rail so it can’t slide or fly off.
  • Fits any standard folding beach chair, regular folding chair

pocket

  • 3 front pockets with box pleats so they expand: 4″ sunscreen, 6″ paperback, 4″ phone.
  • Hidden full-width zip pocket on front of chair, covered with flap — keeps phone/keys/cash out of sight and, optional reflective lining (Insul-Brite or Windshield-Shade Offcut), keeps heat out.

Skill + Time

  • Beginner: straight cut, straight stitching, bias binding, a simple topstitched zipper (no difficult install)
  • Each part is a rectangle — just a template, a corner-curve, printed at 100% on letter paper.
  • No seam allowances to track: all edges are finished with bias binding in one pass
  • A real afternoon project

Supplies required
