Perhaps most revealing is the title section At home with DianeWhich opens a window on the exclusive interior of her Los Angeles home in Sullivan Canyon. The property reflects the same refined sensibility that characterizes his clothes, mixing rustic Americana pieces with industrial elements and the editor’s eye for texture. Farmhouse tables and stacked cupboards sat alongside the factory style LightingPaintings inspired by Navajo textiles, California ceramics and the American West. The result was a home that felt understated, collected and deeply personal all at once. Photography was another lifelong passion. Diane assembled an impressive collection spanning nineteenth-century landscapes, modernist works and contemporary portraits, with a particular affinity for black and white images. Highlights include Edward S. Curtis, Timothy L. Included are works by O’Sullivan, Robert Adams and David Wojnarowicz, as well as portraits by Cindy Sherman and Annie Leibovitz, whose lens also captured Diane.

The final section of the auction is dedicated to Diane Keaton’s passion for art books. Over the years, she collected thousands of volumes Architecturedesign, photography, Italian painting, garden and Hollywood signs. Yet the way she chose to display it made her collection truly special. Diane arranged books as decorative pieces in her home. The volumes were stacked with ladders and ladders or grouped in carefully considered arrangements of ten or fifteen books organized by theme or color. Each display was finished with a decorative object, perhaps a wicker basket, ceramic piece or doll’s house, creating both personal and highly personal vignettes. Many of these arrangements have been preserved and are being offered as individual lots in the sale catalog. Removed from the room for which they were conceived, they can inevitably lose some of their original charm. Yet they remain a reflection of Diane’s singular eye and creative spirit, qualities that captivate long after she leaves the stage.
