Accuracy is another factor. XTape is rated to about ±1/16 inch, which is acceptable for many applications, but I found some discrepancies when measuring beyond 12-foot lengths of tape using the laser. While I don’t see this as a measuring tool for finish carpenters or trades that rely on tight tolerances for framing or general layout, it works well.

Where XTape really shines is in situations where speed and convenience are crucial. If you need to get a quick measurement, document it, and move on without an assistant, it can be a useful addition.

Based on my testing experience, it is best suited for:

• Insurance adjusters estimate losses remotely
• DIYers work alone on home projects
• Light-duty framing or layout work

At around $239, it costs more than many standard laser measures, so it makes the most sense for users who will take advantage of its hybrid features rather than relying on it as a simple measuring tool.

Overall, the XTape1 is an innovative tool that brings some smart features to the table. It probably won’t replace dedicated measuring tools for professional use, but for the right user, it can be a handy piece of gear to keep close at hand.
