Peonies in the Kitchen + Peony Farm Adventure!

Have I mentioned how much I love peonies? I’m sure I say that every year.

My potted peonies only produced three blooms this spring, but I figured I hadn’t fertilized them! Maybe that’s why. I will definitely remember to do that in hopes of more next year!

I cut two of the three that were already open and brought them to the kitchen. It was not much, but still, very beautiful! Instant fun!

Real footage of me wandering the garden (just kidding, yes, I’ll share a cute peony farm adventure with my grandson below)

At our last house we planted several peonies that I loved, but overall I’d say my success has been varied and a bit unpredictable. Perhaps pollination is the missing link.

There are so many peonies in our neighborhood that are just gorgeous! I had to take a photo of this the other day as I was walking down the street. So lovely!

I was so happy this morning that our dear neighbor across the street unexpectedly dropped off the most beautiful bouquet! Did she see me chasing them? Yes! I haven’t taken a photo of them yet, but I’ll share them when I do.

We’ve been wanting to go to a peony farm for maybe a decade. There is such a short window to see them and somehow we always miss them.

This week we just seized the day and it happens. It was so cute, this will definitely have to be an annual thing now.

The farm we went to is called Simply Peonies in Everson, Washington.

I wish my little granddaughter Lila was here too! But Forrest was a very charming garden tour host and loved every minute of it (as did we!).

We all smell very much like a peony and some roses! All together actually scented the air.

Each one is very unique!

Forrest loved peonies, but buttercups were probably his favorite.

It’s neat that they even let dogs visit. Our dogs love adventures like this!

Lily is especially fond of gardens. She is going to be an old lady now, but we knew since she was a cub that she really enjoyed all her senses wherever she went. We take him everywhere on adventures. She loves local nurseries and adventures at the beach. So she was as happy as a clam in a peony farm!

Yes, they look a little rough around the edges, it was very windy that day, but they had as much fun as we did.

One thing I’ve learned since moving to our coastal neighborhood is that deer don’t bother peonies like a lot of plants. We didn’t have deer in Seattle so when we moved here where the deer roam freely I put them in pots on our back deck to protect them.

With our venture into the peony farm this week, and our neighbor’s success with peonies, I’m pretty sure I need to plant as many peonies as possible in our little yard. I wish they lasted longer, but still worth it!

Do you grow peonies? I’d love to hear your tips and experience with them.
