Looking for inspiration for the fourth? I have all the projects and recipes and DIYs. You can see all the patriotic decorating ideas here.
Years ago, when my husband held my hand and looked lovingly into my eyes in front of 400 of our closest friends and relatives….
….and promised to keep and keep from this day forth….
For the rich or for the poor.
In sickness and in health.
For all the rest of our days.
As he stood at that altar he looked so adorable with his sparkling brown eyes and that infectious smile. I wonder if he knew.
I wonder if he knew that one day he would climb onto the balcony of the house whose wife grew up with an arm full of bunting…
….His wife and his camera below provide super helpful directions.
There is nothing cuter than a man hanging up a patriotic outfit.
So to celebrate all the patriotic holidays and our company’s 250th birthday, I’ve put together some inspiration for us.
Here are 11 patriotic decorating ideas, DIY projects and recipes.
11 patriotic decorating ideas and DIY projects and recipes
1. Ribbon-tie table runner
This is a project of the Wayback Machine.
A long time ago, in a far away country called Kentucky, we had a farmhouse.
I made this burlap table runner, which was one of the most ridiculously easy projects ever.
And the ribbons make it look so festive.
you Burlap table runner can be seen here.
2. A wooden shim flag
Did you know you make a million projects out of wood shims?
I’ve made table tops and wreaths and Christmas trees.
And flags like this one.
I left it natural and painted it light blue, but you can also paint it red and white and blue.
you can see Here’s how to make a flag like this.
3. Fourth of July Apple Pie
There’s not much in life that I bring to a potluck with my head held high.
But this pie? He is a blue ribbon winner.
The difference is that this crust only has three ingredients, and it’s very light and flaky without being too sweet.
you Fourth of July apple pie recipe can be found here.
4. Fourth of July table setting
Have you ever thought about using boots as a centerpiece? (Total aside: make sure they are new boots – trust me on this one).
Sometimes the table setting is as simple as a burlap runner and polka-dotted silverware.
And then use Banda as a placemat.
you Fourth of July table setting ideas can be found here.
5. DIY nautical flag
This was a project I made for my room at Cape Cod last year.
Each signal flag represents a different character.
Create your own sign with letters that spell out a personalized word.

6. Plywood starfish and sand dollars
I wanted to share this project when I made it, but I forgot.
Can you see the big flag on the left?
I DIYed it with starfish and sand dollars.
I wish I had a better picture of it, but it’s basically a big piece of plywood with starfish glued in place of stripes and sand dollars as stars.
If you have any questions about this project, let me know.
7. Coastal Patriotic Bedroom
Have you ever heard of the author Mary Kay Andrews?
Years ago, we stayed at one of her cottages on Tybee Island in Georgia.
It had the cutest decor and the bedroom is perfect for a bit of coastal, nautical decor.
you Check out the coastal bedroom here.
8. Fourth of July dessert
I know this will be the last minute for Memorial Day, but be sure and pin it for the 4th.
All you need is a mason jar and layers of strawberries and blueberries (which are very patriotic fruits).
I’ve made several versions of this (including one where I added a graham cracker crust).
It can be refrigerated ahead of time before a party or get-together.

9. Projects of this Band
Sometimes you just need to decorate one of these.
a bandana.
You can get them at the dollar store and make a lot of them.
Look at this Here are three easy bandana projects.
10. How to keep bunting from blowing in the wind
Here is the famous bunting.
We put it around Memorial Day and leave it until after the fourth.
The challenge with bunting is keeping it in place.
Good thing I have all the tips for that.
you can see Here’s how to keep it from blowing in the wind.
11. Fourth of July Tin Roof
No post about the Fourth of July would be complete without mentioning this amazing ceiling.
This takes patriotic decor to the next level.
This was the ceiling of a game room I photographed in Alabama and I still love it.
It would be a fun look to recreate in a basement or movie room.
