Plastic soda bottles usually end up in the recycling bin after one use, but their shape makes them perfect for small storage projects. Instead of buying another pencil case or desk organizer, this DIY turns empty bottles into compact zipper containers that hold pens, cables, makeup brushes, craft tools, and other small accessories.

The project only requires two plastic bottles, a zipper, scissors and hot glue. Once finished, the container acts like a hard-shell pouch with a transparent body that keeps everything inside visible. The curved plastic helps the case keep its structure inside backpacks and drawers instead of collapsing like soft fabric organizers.
Two plastic bottles make up the entire container
The case is formed by cutting the bottoms from a matching soda bottle. Rounded plastic edges create enough depth to store markers, pens, charging cables or small tools.
Keeping both bottle halves the same size helps the zipper line up evenly once attached.

A zipper turns bottles into reusable cases
Instead of permanently gluing pieces of plastic together, the project wraps a zipper around the cut edges. It transforms single-edition bottles into containers that open and close like travel pouches.
The dark zipper fabric also covers the rough plastic edges and gives the project a cleaner finished look.

Hot glue holds everything in place
Hot glue secures the zipper directly to the edge of the bottle without sewing or drilling holes through the plastic. Working in small sections helps align the zipper around the curved shape.
Once attached, the zipper creates a flexible center connection between the two bottle pieces.

Clear plastic keeps supplies visible
The transparent plastic makes it easy to see what’s stored inside without opening the case. Pens, markers, earbuds, charging cords and craft supplies stay organized while being visible at a glance.
The shape of the bottle also prevents small items from spilling inside a bag or desk drawer.

The compact size makes the case easy to travel with
The finished container fits easily inside a backpack, tote bag, purse or office drawer. A rigid plastic shell offers more protection than a soft fabric pouch for things like pens, scissors or charging accessories.
Different bottle sizes can also make great storage containers for sewing kits, makeup tools, or desk supplies.

Empty bottles become useful instead of disposable
Instead of throwing away plastic bottles after one use, this project gives them another function with just a few materials. The result looks closer to a reusable organizer than a recycled craft project.
Different zipper colors, bottle shapes and sizes can also change the final look by keeping the same simple idea.
