Allwood Estate, Beverly Hills, California
Cher and husband Sonny had long eyed a property in Beverly Hills, and in 1974, the Ovalwood estate officially became theirs for around $750,000. The 12,000 square foot home was built in 1936 by Robert Farquhar in the Italian Renaissance style. The couple bought it from Hollywood actor Tony Curtis, who was moving London. The home reportedly sold in 2021 for around $88 million (despite being on the market for $180 million four years earlier). At the time of Chere’s purchase the decor was reportedly extravagant, with paneling throughout, dramatic chandeliers and molded ceilings.
Benedict Canyon, Beverly Hills, California
After Sonny and Cher divorced in 1975, Cher purchased a secluded home in upper Benedict Canyon, Los Angeles, known as her ‘Equestrian Estate’. The estate had 14-acre grounds, as well as a swimming pool, paddock and tennis courts. Cher spent several years renovating the house, reportedly giving it an Egyptian style. In 1979 she said People Weekly Magazine that its architect Ted Granzbach “got a lot of ideas from the souvenir book that came with the TV movie ‘Jesus of Nazareth’.”
Aspen, Colorado
Cher owned a luxury property in Aspen, Colorado during the 1980s. The Aspen home was designed for cozy evenings by the snowy mountain views and the fire. Known for its large size and comfortable design, it was an ideal retreat from the fast pace lifestyle of Los Angeles. The home demonstrates Cher’s love for quiet, natural surroundings and allows her to escape the spotlight.
