Christmas!! In less than three weeks! How did this happen? After one of the busiest years in our family’s history, I can hardly believe December is here. As I mentioned the other day when I shared a highlight of our cozy and gloomy Christmas tree decoration, I haven’t had much of a chance to share on the blog in the past year. But with the holidays upon us here, I was excited to join some of my blogging friends for a few holiday posts full of ideas. Today I’m sharing our layered Christmas mantelpiece, long as a peak in our simple and cozy Christmas living room.
As I mentioned, I’ve joined my friends who are also sharing their holiday decor ideas with you today. Be sure to visit their posts using the links I’ve provided at the bottom of today’s article. Thanks to my talented friend Jen, of Tatertots and Jello, for hosting this hop!

I kept the overall look and feel of our Christmas decor very similar to last year. In fact, the biggest changes to our living room since I shared it last Christmas have been the actual furniture. We moved our Ikea sofa on the lake to the cabin/condo we’ve been working on this past year. In its place, we purchased a new Stylus sectional from a local furniture store. Next, I ordered a white bouclé swivel chair from Costco. I also found a more modern organic coffee table that brought some much needed black into our space. Finally, we have a new rug in darker, cozier tones that gives the whole space a more earthy, deep, organic feel.

Our Christmas mantel is topped with two pine garlands that I picked up years ago at Costco. I love how rustic and natural they are. I placed some wooden bead garland, my little white Scandi light house garland and some vintage looking brass bell garland above and below the pine tree. Yes, that’s FOUR garlands together on this mantelpiece. Everything is attached using command hooks – my favorite no-fuss trick for layering pieces this holiday season.
On the mantel itself, I kept it really simple with two sets of vases filled with winter greenery. I found some adorable little bottle brush trees that I found at our local dollar store. Since we have a Frame TV, we can change the art above the fireplace whenever we want. For the season, I chose a simple rustic scene that has tons of clay and brick in it as it ties in well with the mural in our dining room. Overall the color scheme is tones of green and cream/white, with pops of browns and earthy clay tones.
The tree is very neutral and full of wooden, white, brass and rich ornaments, along with some garland of wood and black beads. More of the Mini Vintage Brass Bell Garland. The deepest layer of snow is actually the feather duster tips I use every year (right out of those dollar store dusters)!
While not minimal by any stretch of the imagination, our Christmas decor is definitely down a lot from previous years. With all the busyness of 2023, I wanted to get the decor right and enjoy the cozy layers and all the lights without spending too much time and energy reinventing everything. I love how it turned out!
