PB Knockoff Faux Stone Easter Bunny Sculptures

How to create your own faux stone Easter bunny using a dollar store bunny with this quick Pottery Barn Easter DIY project.

Wow, it’s March! It’s snowing where we live right now and it’s pretty wet, dreary and cold outside. I’m not discouraged though because once March rolls around I know spring can’t be too far behind. In a little more than a month we will celebrate Easter! I love when I get to bring in fresh spring color and decor. I want this year’s Easter decorations to blend in with the rest of our living room and dining room, so I’m going for a more earthy and retro feel. These faux stone Easter bunnies I made from some dollar store Easter bunny finds are the perfect example of a neutral, earthy, retro feel for Easter decor. They are also a simple Pottery Barn Knockoff project and I think they look adorable for a fraction of the cost!

Today I’m joined by a few friends who are also sharing their DIY Easter decoration ideas with you! Be sure to visit their posts using the links I posted at the bottom of my article.

My inspiration: clay stone Easter bunny sculptures

As I mentioned, I found the inspiration for this Easter DIY in these Easter Bunny stone sculptures that can be found here at Pottery Barn, retailing for $98 each:

While adorable and a bit larger (and real stone), I think I was able to create a similar feel with a few simple materials I had on hand, as well as some bunny “statues” I found at my local Dollar. The bunnies I used to create the same feel were $4-5 a piece.

My Fake Easter Bunnies:

Here’s how they started:

I started by giving them one coat of Fusion Mineral Paint in Casement.

After letting it dry, I mixed one teaspoon of Fresco powder with two teaspoons of Fusion Paint to create the solid white texture I was looking for.

Finally, after they were dry, I applied a coat of distressing wax to create a vintage rustic feel. I smeared it all over the sculpture and then wiped it off until I was happy with the effect.

Note on materials:

If you don’t own Fusion mineral paint or their Fresco powder, you can create a similar effect with leftover white wall paint and/or white craft paint mixed with a little plaster of paris. Check out this article here for my tips on creating textured paint with plain plaster:
