When I signed up for TruGreen’s TruPro Plan Last spring, I was cautiously optimistic. My 5,000-square-foot Raleigh, NC lawn went through the ringer after an armyworm infestation killed most of the grass, and I spent months trying to feed it back. my The first two treatments show initial promiseBut Trugreen is clear that real results take up to 12 months. Now that I’ve completed the full annual plan, here’s what a year of professional lawn care actually looked like.

Trugreen Treatment and Results
After the initial evaluation and first treatment things got going, the regular follow-up visits quickly became one of my favorite parts of the whole experience – mainly because I never felt like I was second guessing what was going on in my yard. Every time a specialist comes out, they leave behind a detailed service summary that breaks everything down: what they did, what they saw, and what I should do next. They also made it a point to close my doors each time so my dogs wouldn’t make a surprise escape, and yes, they even noted that in the summary, which I probably appreciated more than they realized.
Tree and shrub services
During one visit, the specialist took a closer look at my trees and pointed out something I hadn’t noticed at all – sooty mold growing on the tree trunks and leaves on my 20-year-old oak tree and crape myrtles. Once he explained it, I couldn’t see it, and then I noticed that some of my neighbor’s trees were in worse shape (some completely dead from the same issue). I was recommended Trushrub Bark and Foliage Treatment, which consists of a mixture of horticultural oils, insecticides, fungicides, and disinfectants. The root of the problem? Sap-sucking aphids. They leave behind a sticky residue, and sooty mold fungi grow on it. It was one of those “oh that makes sense” moments, and I loved that they were just looking beyond the grass and helping to protect the entire landscape.

Trugreen Expertise
Adding tree and shrub care felt like a natural extension of the lawn plan, and it’s worth noting that on a later visit, I asked the expert for some mowing tips while he was there. The fact that he took the time to walk me through it, along with everything else, is exactly the kind of service that makes this feel less like a vendor relationship and more like having a knowledgeable resource in your corner. Tree and shrub service is available as an add-on; Prices vary depending on your property.

A year later
In one year, the difference is frankly quite dramatic. What started out as a muddy mess with scattered patches of stressed-out grass has filled in into a thick, green space that actually feels like it’s in the neighborhood again. Broadleaf weeds that were ubiquitous are now minimal, and some of the more stubborn ones—such as nutsedge and pigeonweed—were specifically targeted and brought under control. Even the brown spots that worried me initially were treated with a fungicide to stop the spread, and that made a noticeable difference over time.
It wasn’t an overnight transformation, but sticking with the perfect plan paid off. Between consistent treatments, clear communication and added tree and shrub care, everything feels healthier and more under control. The lawn looks lush, problem areas are managed, and I feel like I’m actually understanding what’s going on in my yard now instead of reacting to it. Looking out over a green space that was once a patchwork of mud and weeds is instantly relaxing – and it definitely makes us spend more time outside.

Is Trugreen worth it after a whole year?
Trugreen was clear from the start that real, lasting results take time – and it proved to be true. The first couple of treatments showed initial promise, but the full picture only came together during the full annual plan. Continuous fertilization, targeted weed control, aeration and monitoring, and active pest management all build on each other in a way that a one-time treatment never can.
What stood out the most over the course of the year wasn’t just the lawn — it was the communication. Each visit came with a detailed summary, each recommendation came with an explanation, and each follow-up felt deliberate rather than routine. For anyone who has dealt with a lawn service that leaves them wondering if anything is actually being done, that alone is a significant upgrade.
