Turn old bottle caps into rustic bottle cap flowers to display in potted plants or in your garden itself. Safe to go out too!

Bottle Cap Flower Craft
This bottle cap flower project was born out of my craft books, Button Mania: Buttons, Bottlecaps and Beyond!Which is now available on Amazon! I save bottle caps, but I’ve also bought bottle caps to use for fun craft projects like this bottle cap flower in my herb garden. I left my bottle cap flower in the snow and rain all year, so now it has a rusty finish that I love!
As you can see from this photo, the bottle cap flower does not start out rusty. If you prefer it to stay shiny, you’ll need to store it away from the elements. But I still can’t guarantee that it won’t rust. Bending bottle caps stresses the metal and can cause it to rust. But that’s what I love about it!

What you will need to make this project
As always, the complete printable supply list and instructions are at the end of this post.

You can collect your own bottle caps, or you can buy them. These are the ones I bought But I also used beer bottle caps around the outside of the flower.
How to make a bottle cap flower
Use pliers to fold the 12 bottle caps in half like a book.

You know, the bottle caps that actually come on soda and beer bottles are stronger. Quite a bit sturdier. It is difficult to bend them, but you can definitely do it. The bottle caps you buy are made specifically for crafting and are not that thick, so bending is easier.

- Glue a bottle cap to the center of the canning lid.
- Turn the two “petal” bottle caps so they are facing backwards. Do this with all the petals; You will have 6 pairs.
- Glue all six pairs of bent bottle caps onto the canning lid, going around the center bottle cap.
- Glue two bottle caps to the sides of the dowel as leaves.
- Allow the glue to dry completely before attempting to move the flower.
In the spring I accidentally broke my dowel. That’s why my little flower ended up at the front of my herb garden. The dowel is still attached, it is now much shorter. ;)
I hope you enjoyed this project! Remember to check out my book, Button Mania: Buttons, Bottlecaps and Beyond!which is available at Amazon.
