Looking for grandmacore bedroom design ideas? Here are the design plans (with room mock-ups) for our blue and white bedroom makeover.
ok guys
Do you want to come along on a small planning trip?
Ever wondered how I plan a room?
where do i start
Where do I get my inspiration from?
Where does it all begin?
Do I ever make mistakes along the way?
I literally laughed out loud when I read the last statement I typed. I am the queen of mistakes. The secret to making mistakes? You don’t let them define you. You don’t let them be anything more than minor speedbumps throughout the design process.
And most importantly? Don’t let them stop you from designing.
Here is our room. Here’s where we’re starting. A few things to note about this space.
- This Rome is decorated for autumn (This is the last picture I have of this place)
- It looks very similar except for the pumpkin
- I need to replace this mattress (I love it, but it has a lot of blemishes that you can’t see)
- I’m going with the grandmacore theme (Except for some more vintage items like Cottagecore)
- I mocked up the space with various items and I’ll walk you through the process
are you ready
// Blue and white lattice rug //
This is the mattress I got to start with.
Isn’t it beautiful? I loved the layers of blues and the diamond trellis pattern is classic.
you The mattress can be seen here.
Let’s see how it looks in the room.
A quick note. This room has a super odd layout (it’s L-shaped). I have tried different rug placements and sizes and 8′ x 10″ works best in this space. A room looks better with a large central rug like this one. I’ve tried 9′ x 12′ before, but it took up too much space and looked awkward. This is just to say that sometimes you have to experiment with what is right for the room.
And then let the room speak to you.
I liked the rug, but I was concerned that the blue was too soft and didn’t have enough definition.
So I decided to make fun of it with a curtain.
// Gingham curtains //
I was leaning towards these curtains.
An oversized gingham check would be perfect on the windows to help balance the rug.
you See the curtains here (they come in tons of different colors).
Let’s see how they look in a room with pillows.
Umm.
No.
Just no.
WAAAAAY too much contrast.
So I tried another curtain option.
// Blue and white striped curtains //
A good basic blue and white stripe.
The stripe looks like a spot, but it’s bolder, and there’s more white between the stripes.
you These screens can be seen here.
Let’s look at new curtain and rug combinations.
the better
But then I decided that I really didn’t like the mattress anymore ((See what I mean about being wrong.).
sigh
It was starting to look a lot like my bedroom from high school (which is probably back in style now). I wanted a stone with a bit more gray (to help ground it with the floor) and a bit more pattern.
So I got this mattress.
// Gray and blue rug //
I love this rug.
The details are so beautiful and there is so much definition and pattern.
Also, I really love a rug with a center pattern like this one.
you This rug can be seen here.
Let’s see how this rug looks in space.
ok
Now we are getting somewhere.
This is what I wanted in my mind to look like.
Have you ever had that happen? Where you can see the room, but you don’t know how to get there?
Come sit with me.
Now I needed artwork and accessories and look what I got.
// Blue and white artwork //
Isn’t this so beautiful?
They are part of the new My Texas House drop for spring.
you The artwork can be seen here.
Now let’s see how they look in space.
love
love
love
seriously.
I love how it all comes together.
// Milk glass lamp //
Then I found the perfect grandmacore accessory – this little milk glass lamp that I’m going to add to the side table, and the room started to come together.
you This milk glass lamp can be seen here.
I found block print bedding and pillows and hydrangeas.
// The design scheme //
Here’s what I’m thinking of for bedding and some new accessories.
Then I’ll go vintage shopping (both my house, my mom’s house and downtown McKinney Square) for some truly authentic pieces.
Another look at our design journey.
Of these.
For this (minus the spider web on the mirror).
Wasn’t this fun?
If you ever have a mattress that you need help with? Nice to try putting it in your space.
Stay tuned.
I plan to pull this room together over the next couple of weeks.
There is hope.
But sometimes I am wrong. remember? 🙂
