Cozy Christmas Home Tour | The Happy House

Our cozy Christmas home tour featuring non-traditional color schemes and holiday decorations in white, cream, gold, brass and wood.

Wow, I can hardly believe it’s Christmas Home Tour time again! I am thrilled to share our cozy Christmas home tour. I have to admit that I haven’t been loving our living/dining room space for the past few months. But recently I painted, added some new drapes and put up a mural. I rearranged all the furniture and combined with the decor changes, gave the space a completely different feel. I love it even more, and it looks doubly cozy now with our neutral holiday decor.

Cozy Christmas Home Tour 2022

I shared our neutral Christmas tree decorating ideas last week and it felt really good to be back blogging after a long time. While I usually share a ton of holiday content, I had to take a step back this fall for a variety of reasons. I shared this in mine Last week’s Christmas Tree Decor post.

a new one approach

This year, I really took a different approach. I cut back on the amount of “Christmas” added to our home! Instead of feeling like I had to use everything I owned, I focused on unity and harmony. I tried to create a simpler, more cohesive look that flows naturally throughout our home. I stayed very neutral with our decor, using only my favorite items plus a few new finds. These white, cream, gold, brass and wood Christmas decorations complement our current fabrics and colors rather than compete with them.

Changes in this space

Green curtains are a new addition, and I love them! Green velvet, from Amazon, and super cheap. Find them here. With the new mural in our dining room I was inspired to change them to balance out all the color I added to the other end of the room. I’ll share the dining room tomorrow, along with our front porch and foyer and pops of holiday decor at Christmas.

Have you noticed the new paint color on the walls? It is no longer the bright white we painted it before we moved in. I will share more details about why; But the walls are now painted with Benjamin Moore’s halo. It’s an airy green-grey that gives our space a completely different feel!

I just decorated one tree, and changed its placement along with our furniture placement in the dining room. It was fun rearranging our furnishings this year, and I love how much more open it feels between the living room and dining room now.

A non-traditional Christmas color scheme

Green is the theme in our space, with most real Christmas decorations being white, cream, gold, brass or wood. I feel the warmth these neutrals add to our home, and they blend well with my non-traditional green and earthy color scheme.

The tree is definitely the focal point of this entire space, as it sits between the dining room and living room areas of our great room. I decorated it first, and then brought in the rest of our decorative pieces depending on whether it flowed well with our tree. All of them seem more relevant than previous years. This made us feel comfortable and peaceful to spend the long winter evenings here.

I’ll be back tomorrow to share our dining room area, as well as pops of holiday decor touches in our kitchen, foyer, and front porch.

I hope you’ve found some inspiration to transform your home this holiday season so you can create the perfect backdrop for creating wonderful holiday memories with your friends and family!
